on & on orbs

in my world, “too much of a good thing” just doesn’t apply when it comes to plants and art, which is why every home and office should sport Tend’s new line of interconnecting orbs. multiples of 3 or more transform your space into a living gallery. use them to create wall screens, room dividers, chandeliers, living mobiles, to bring life into dull corners, use en-masse to build floating living walls…truly, they will go as far as your imagination will take them: on and on and on and on…

and the winner is…

MilkWeed!!! Big Up to the clever Miko of NYC! you all submitted such fun ideas, it was really tough to choose! for your participation, i will be emailing you a discount code for my spankin’ new webstore launching next month.

Miko is a designer who loves cooking, crafting and photography. she hopes to one day cultivate an herb and vegetable garden in her as yet imaginary outdoor space but must first get rid of her “black thumb” (we’ll fix that). You can follow her daily adventures on Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikomiao) where she is documenting her 2010 year in photos.

thank you, Miko, and enjoy your new orbie baby!

MilkWeed sprouts on Design Milk August 31st.

tend for design milk

i am so excited to be a new columnist for the super-tastic on-line magazine Design Milk! i will be writing on all things leafy and modern the last Tuesday of each month. and since this will be written for you, my community, i thought i would invite said community to help me come up with a name for the column. something witty regarding plants, plant advice, modern plant design, plant projects, plant artists (you? tell me!) and all-around plant nerdiness. oh and did i mention? the winner gets one of these:

tend, design milk, eco orb, orb, terrarium

thanks for the opportunity, Design Milk, and thanks to all you supportive weeders!

Prado Green Wedding

green weddings, succulent bouquet, tend

this fun Balboa Park wedding was a fantastic opportunity for me to put my budding wedding chops to the test. not three, not four, but FIVE colors made up the palette of this Mexican/Old San Diego styled affair, a bit of a wedding design risk if you stick to tradition but hey i guess that’s why they picked me (i don’t)! to top it off, these hues are fairly tough to come by in the way of succulents: bright & muted turquoise, yellow, white, and bright red. light-hearted but elegant was my mission. also, we wanted a super lush & lively succulent tablescape rather than static-ly potted pieces. which meant some serious mechanical magic. i hope you dig the result!

green weddings, succulent bouquet, tendlocally grown succulents, freesia, billy balls, calla lilies, peonies, ranunculus, & dahlias comprised the sustainable floral menu. wedding coordination by the fabulous Francine Ribeau, who managed this 12 hour party as a one-armed broken-wristed bandit (as if i wasn’t already in awe of her mad coordinating finesse), assistance by Kiyoko Ando & Noriko Mochida, and pix by Good Nickles Photography (so good to meet you guys!). big Congrats to Nick & Alana!!!

reunited and it feels so good

i should have never doubted you. i knew you’d be back someday. so many lonely nights wondering where you had gone, what i had done to loose you. occasionally i’d see you with others but you never looked as good with them. deep down i knew you’d find your way back, we just both had some growing to do. sure, i had others. a girl has to move on but she never forgets her first. in my heart you were the one. you have always been the one. welcome home my big, bad, beautiful 8″ Stud of an Orb. i’ve missed you so. large orb, orb, eco orb, tend, terrarium, plant orblarge orb, orb, eco orb, tend, terrarium, plant orb Read More »
